Badass Legend of St. Pete Beach-Henge
Renee and I went for our usual walk this morning. We don’t have Teddy with us, which makes it a little strange, but also makes us a bit faster! Beautiful morning. Good morning, St. Pete Beach!
Renee and I just got back from taking a dip in the ocean. It's unbelievably nice out. About 90° with a few puffy white clouds in the sky, and little to no humidity. Ironically, Jake (at home in Perrysburg) and Jonathan (in Boston) have higher temps than us today.
Renee and I had dinner at Leverock’s tonight, which has been a mainstay of our St. Pete Beach repertoire for decades. We reminisced with our waitress a bit – she’s worked at the restaurant for eighteen years (“going on nineteen!”) and must have started right at the time when they were opening the new location after closing the others we used to visit. She was great and the food was, of course, perfect.
I described it as “a great local place for fresh fish, nothing fancy” when texting my buddies this picture. That sums it up pretty well, I think. I also told them something I always think when we sit down at Leverock’s and they hand me the flyer on the left with the menu: “If half of the legend is true, Johnny Leverock was a badass.”
Indeed.
Jake always gets dessert with me at Leverock’s. I always opt for the key lime pie and he usually does as well. Renee and I are still getting used to being at the beach without the boys. Certain things make us think of all of our trips with them; key lime pie at Leverock’s certainly did that tonight. I texted that photo to Jake and we both agreed we wished he was here with us. Next time!
Renee and I were talking about how much we loved our location earlier in the day. One benefit, as we see it, is that we have a perfect view of the sunset throughout essentially the entire year.
Renee pointed out that “sometimes it’s hidden behind those buildings, though.”
True.
But even during the few months where that’s true, we get to see St. Pete Beach-henge, as the sun splits the uprights of the condos on the north end of Upham Beach. Obstructed a bit, sure, but cool nonetheless.
The sun sets over the Gulf, descending between condo buildings on the north end of Upham Beach in St. Pete Beach, Florida.
