US Copyright Office Grants DMCA Exemption for Ice Cream Machines (extremetech.com)

…restaurant owners and independent repair professionals will be able to bypass the software locks that keep kitchen machinery offline until the "right" repair services get involved. This should lower prices and speed up repairs in such situations.

Your move, McDonald’s. If downtime on ice cream machines doesn’t drop drastically as a result of this exemption, it will likely melt away in three years when the Library of Congress considers its renewal.

We succumbed to the pressure tonight and had Cane's chicken for dinner. I waited for about an hour in the drive-through, which, actually, wasn't that bad. Orderly at least. We were underwhelmed with the food. The fries are nothing short of horrible, and the chicken nothing special. There's not much else on the menu (it really boils down to a question of how many strips you want; even the chicken sandwich is a few strips in a bun), so I doubt we'll be heading back anytime soon. At least they built a nice looking restaurant.

We had some pretty great pizza at the Stoked Pizza Company in Cambridge tonight. Great pizza, and a decent beer selection to boot. I had the Night Shift Whirlpool, which was a little more citrusy than I expected, but was still very good.

I feel I had to tell the story of ordering the Meat Mountain at Arby's tonight.

Me, to the drive-through speaker: "Do you guys make the meat mountain."

"No, sorry."

pause

...I can hear someone talking to them in the background...

"Sorry...yes, we can make that for you."

Boom! It's real. Apparently you just need someone in the kitchen that knows about it.

Jake somehow discovered a secret menu at Arby's, and requested the Meat Mountain for dinner tonight. I didn't know if it was a real thing or not. But, sure enough, when I asked for it, they gladly made it.

Eight meats, two cheeses.

And he ate most of it.

We get excited about new restaurants in Toledo. Culver's just opened their first location in the area and, with essentially no hype machine as far as I've noticed, people are going a little crazy for it. We bailed on our first attempt a few days ago, after waiting in line for over 30 minutes with little progress. We tried again today and committed to sticking it out. After forty minutes, we just turned into the lot.

Renee miscalculated the amount of milk needed in a recipe yesterday. She discarded the carton before realizing she had poured out too much. Never being wasteful, she put the remainder in a jar. So I'm having some sketchy-looking milk with my Cheerios this morning!

An empty root beer bottle and a post-meal paper plate rest on a stone wall of a firepit with a fire in the background (Matt Buchanan/Perrysburg, OH)

The sign of a great meal - a clean plate!
