An additional 20 bucks a night got us this balcony with a view at the hotel. It's maybe 8'x8'. And totally worth it.
Perfect weather helps.

We walked to dinner after getting Jonathan's room situated. We decided on Pinocchio's, his favorite pizza place (which is not Dave Portnoy's favorite, btw). We all love it, too, so we weren't upset when he requested it.
"Cash only tonight guys, credit card reader is down."
Luckily we had enough cash between us, and had a great dinner.

It's moving day. Second moving day, actually. We' moved the stuff Jonathan had left at home into his dorm yesterday. Today we're moving the stuff from the apartment into the dorm. Shouldn't be too bad or take too long - I think his apartment stuff will fit in one car load, but we'll see. Two, tops.
Renee and I started the day with breakfast at Tatte in Harvard Square.

Speaking of dinner — we went to a favorite of ours, El Jefe's Taqueria in Cambridge. I got a Jarritos with my tacos, thinking of Jake who stayed at home this trip.

I've been waiting for these stairs my entire life. These numbered stairs lead to the second floor of Tatte in Cambridge, a favorite breakfast spot for Renee and me. I've never noticed the numbers on the stairs before, but we've also never eaten upstairs before today.
Anyways, on the numbering. I'm not sure when it started, or why it never stopped, but I usually count stairs in my head when going up or down a flight. It's automatic. I don't think I do it every time, but it's frequent enough that I'm fully aware of it.
After taking these up and down, though, I have to say I preferred unnumbered stairs. Seeing the numbers seemed to jumble up the counting in my head, which was unexpected.

There's probably ten tables with chess boards in this sidewalk seating area in Harvard Square. All were being used tonight, which is typical. Only this one had spectators.

I always enjoy hanging out in Our Fair City. We actually listened to a couple old episodes of Car Talk on the drive over. What a great show.

Renee and I are on our own this morning, so we headed to our favorite breakfast spot—Tatte. The line was out the door and seating was hard to come by, so we headed to our other favorite breakfast spot—Bluestone Lane.

Renee and I finished the day with a well-deserved ice cream.

Another great find in Harvard Square, this wonderfully understated plaque honoring Tom Magliozzi, "Clack," of the Tappet brothers and Car Talk fame. Renee and I used to love listening to their show on long drives to and from Florida. Tom was born in East Cambridge and both are MIT alums. Unique and hilarious.

Renee and I explored Harvard Square a bit before meeting Jonathan for lunch, checking out a few areas we hadn't noticed before. Found a Patagonia store. I love their clothes and their corporate philosophy, but, wow, everything is so expensive!

We had some pretty great pizza at the Stoked Pizza Company in Cambridge tonight. Great pizza, and a decent beer selection to boot. I had the Night Shift Whirlpool, which was a little more citrusy than I expected, but was still very good.

We met Jonathan for lunch in Harvard Square, dropped our bags in his dorm room, and headed to the Harvard Museum of Natural History. This is the third museum we've visited since he started here. It was fantastic, just like the others.

We woke up this morning to cheering and clapping coming from the street. Turns out the Cambridge half marathon is being run today and the route takes the runners right past our Airbnb. So I snapped this pic of Renee, went outside to get a few more from the street, and then had coffee and donuts for breakfast. Sigh.

The history on display in Boston is incredible. There's so much of it to go around that some of it, while probably noteworthy and interesting on some level, has yet to warrant attention beyond a simple marker with a date and an unremarkable description of an otherwise forgotten event. Take this ordinary house that sits a few blocks down the street from our Airbnb, for example. Apparently it sits on the site of a fort built "by order of General Washington" in 1775. That seems like a historically significant event and location to me. But the marker in the photo is truly the extent of it today. Weirdly, its incorporation into the white picket fence around the front yard doesn't feel strange at all. It feels natural, fits in. It's so...Boston.
