It's becoming increasingly rare that all four of us are together, and it's even rarer that all four of us get to sit and talk. We didn't plan it, but one of those rare moments developed around the firepit tonight, with all of us ending a great day over s'mores.

After reading that article on bioluminescence, I figured I had to have some photos of the boys with lightning bugs (fireflies?). So, I searched the photos app on my phone for "lightning bugs" and it dutifully returned a series of five photos from over a decade ago. Pretty amazing.

This one shows Jake with fascinated by a ligtning bug resting on his hand (hard to see as it's not illuminated).

What a great way to end a day — all four of us together, having s'mores over the fire in the backyard. We don't get to do this very often these days with Jonathan off at school (and Jake heading out in the Fall), so I really appreciate moments like this lately. We talked and talked and talked, long after the first time Renee said "we should probably head in."

The four of us went to dinner at Inside the Five in Perrysburg tonight, after Jake's shift there. It's rare we get to eat out together like that, so it was really nice to just sit around the table and talk. I had a Tijuana Bagpipes, which Inside describes as a "Cinnamon and Coffee Scottish Ale." I had no trouble putting it down, but probably won't order it again.

I'm upset it took us so long to get over to The Pier since its renovation. It's a great public space that is uniquely St. Pete. And the angle on Albert Whitted is fantastic for watching departing planes, for both runways.

We took this selfie on the steps near the top, with downtown St. Pete in the background.

Great day!

We walked along The Pier in St. Pete after breakfast. Renee sat with Jake while he took some photos of planes leaving from Albert Whitted. I snapped this pic of the two of them while he was waiting for another plane. I love it.

Jake's driving on the way to the airport. Yep, my role here is changing. I did still make sure the water heater was on vacation mode. So there's that.

Both boys have really enjoyed and appreciated their time with grandma and grandpa on this trip. This photo of Jake and Pat, resting on a sidewalk bench during a random moment at the Farmers' Market, symbolizes that to me.

The graveside service for Grandma Phyl was truly beautiful today. Perfect weather, and short and sweet. Each of us took a rose from her casket as we left. I miss her, but have really enjoyed celebrating her life and reflecting on some wonderful memories over the last few days.

We took Teddy over to Debbie's house, and grandma and grandpa came over, too. It's probably the most normal family thing we've done in a long time...and it felt great. The dogs loved it, too.

We're all starting to wonder what holiday dinners will look like this Fall and Winter. Eating outside is best in light of COVID, but who knows what the weather will be like on Thanksgiving and Christmas. We had Pat and Denny over for dinner tonight and it felt like a little bit of a trial run. It was bit chilly out, so we lit a fire and ate around the firepit. Not bad, but I think we're all hoping for a mild November. And December.
